Life can be daunting and challenging. It can overwhelm even the strongest of us.
When life is going smoothly, we feel we are in control. Most of us would like for life to be in our control, but it never is. Life surprises us when we least expect it. Life can be disruptive, and it can be unforgiving.
For us to expect that life will always be smooth is like expecting there will be no tornadoes in Tornado Alley. Every day is not going to produce a tornado, but if you live in Tornado Alley, it will be best if you are prepared.
Spirituality is our preparation against the vagaries of life. Life can toss us around, sometimes violently, spirituality is our anchor during the toughest storms and the roughest seas.
Spirituality grounds us, protects us from the elements — and protects us from our own selves. During trying times, the biggest threat is often from our own selves. We lose our ability to think rationally, fear and desperation drive us to take actions that prove more harmful than the situations themselves.
Let all of us work to ground ourselves spiritually. Let us remind each other that spiritual grounding is not something we do when we are in the midst of the tornado, it is something we must do when life is calm and smooth so we can be ready for the storm.
At your core, you are peace. Be who you are. Be peace.
