Religion versus Spirituality

Religion is completely distinct from Spirituality.

Spirituality is a million times more powerful than religion.

— Ravi Kathuria

Religion has served humanity for thousands of year,
but in modern times as we understand science
we must move away from blind-faith
and appreciate the Universal Spiritual Truths.

The Purpose of Religion

Religion is one of the paths to Spirituality

Religion has served human beings for a long time. It has helped us deal with the challenges of life and build a sense of community. Religion has reminded us to love and serve others. It has guided us to a more nobler life.

However, the wrongful interpretations of religious thoughts and selfish motives have caused great tragedies. To many people, religion is not able to answer important life questions in a consistent, coherent and logical manner that can be accepted by a modern, educated population.

Religion has served us for ages, but as we understand science, understand how the Universe works and modernize our thinking, we must discard blind-faith and appreciate the Universal Spiritual Truths.

What then should have been the purpose of religion? And, going forward can religion reengineer itself to fulfill that purpose?

The purpose of religion should be to — encourage people to pursue spirituality.

Religion is one of the paths to spirituality. It is not the only path, but it certainly is a well-organized and obviously well-funded path.

If religious leaders transformed their messages and made spirituality the goal of religion, it could usher in an era of peace on Earth.

Religion Discriminates.
Spirituality Does Not Discriminate. It Cannot!
— Ravi Kathuria

Misguided interpretation of religious thoughts have led to discrimination against different groups of people.

In many cases, religion has subscribed to societal thinking and values. Patriarchal societies have dominated civilizations and religion has followed in assigning women a back seat in religious organizations and ceremonies. Even to this modern-day, the number of men in religious leadership positions materially outweighs the number of women. Why is that? It should not be. Spirituality makes no distinction based on gender.

Sexual identity has been a hot topic for religious leaders. They have called homosexuality a sin and homosexuals sinners. Religion has been used to discriminate and marginalize people. Spirituality is all-inclusive. Sexual identity does not affect spirituality.

Spirituality is the greatest uniter. Spirituality unites us regardless of caste, creed, religious beliefs, status, region, gender and sexual identity.
