To have an audience with God — that is the pinnacle for a religious person. No greater achievement, no greater purpose. Meeting God is the ultimate step.
Religious people sometimes put a lot of pressure on themselves and their mind — stringent faith and devotion, rigorous reading and analysis of the scriptures, diligent service and kind deeds — all in the pursuit and love of God.
Faith, devotion, knowledge and service are all noble and while they are helpful, they are insufficient. A life full of these alone will not get you the audience with God. Why? Because all of these are for the purposes of the mind, they help calm the mind. Calming the mind is a very important step, but it is a step.
No matter how hard you try, no matter how much faith and devotion you have, you will never see God through your mind. Your mind may make you visit all the churches, mosques, and temples in the world but finding God will still prove to be elusive.
The mind is incapable of experiencing God. The mind is a tool for comprehending and dealing with the finite material world. The mind is incapable of comprehending the infinite God. Your mind is the wrong tool to experience God.
The only way to experience God is to go beyond the mind. Only then will you have the God-Experience.
At your core you are peace. Be who you are. Be peace.
